Llanelli Breast Care Unit Design Success

Suzanne Davies, Capital Administrative Officer for Hywel Dda Health Board, Carmarthenshire was instrumental in helping to create a hotel like stay whilst offering the best medical care for sufferers of Breast Cancer with a view to making Prince Philip Hospital a centre of excellence.

Leading Interior Designer Paul Carter, whose clients include Donatella Versace, also gave his time to design 6 single en-suite ‘hotelling rooms’ for patients recovering from breast cancer surgery. Paul offered his services after meeting the lead oncologist at a Charity Auction. Suzanne has been a keen advocate of Panaz fabrics for several years as they tick all the boxes for providing durability, practicality, availability and service with superior design. The reception area was designed to be ‘funky’ and vibrant not utilitarian and institution looking. Design of the environment is seen as instrumental in putting patients at ease and aiding in their recovery. Suzanne chose a vibrant apple green fabric from our Cadet vinyl range which has antimicrobial and antifungal properties and is tested to NHS specified requirement AATCC147, and also chocolate coloured Domino and Sundial from our Panatex 2 Collection. Panatex is a waterproof jacquard fabric from our Intelligent Textiles Portfolio. In addition to being waterproof Panatex is stain resistant, antimicrobial and flame retardant and ideal for high traffic environments in Healthcare. The vibrant lime green in the upholstery together with the fuschia pink accessories, balanced by the smooth and sophisticated chocolate colour create a stunning design statement as well as improving the comfort in all areas for local cancer patients and their relatives. Panaz fabrics were also used in the Counselling Rooms and Treatment rooms. Photograph courtesy of Tony Mcateer of Gleeds.
